Adoption of OKRs is going to need some vital changes to the way work gets done. Its important that prior dissemination of knowledge happens to prevent element of surprise. In this lesson we list out a few key steps involved in preparing your team for OKRs.
Promotion – Once the decision to adopt OKRs is finalised, plan to promote it across the company. Although the roll out need not be across the entire company in one go, the promotion should be in full force. Use different events to showcase this decision. Such as
Team meetings etc
Introduction – At least 2-3 weeks before the actual date, plan a few OKR workshops or training camps. They can be conducted by internal OKR experts or outside experienced consultants. Help individuals understand the entire framework & how you intend to add your own flavor to it. If it is not possible to organise these events for all team members, at least ensure that team leads/managers attend these events & get an opportunity to resolve their queries.
Expectation Setting – Rely on the results obtained from anonymous survey discussed here. Document what success & failure looks like, in the short, mid & long term.
